Origin: The fungus-resistant variety was crossed from the parent varieties FR 147-66 and We 75-34-13. The interbreeding was carried out in 1988 at the LVWO Weinsberg. The breeding strain FR 147-66 combines hereditary parts of Riesling and Pinot Gris with resistance genes against fungal diseases from American Vitis species. We 75-34-13 is an interbreeding of Sauvignon blanc, Riesling and the Asian vine Vitis amurensis.

Interbreeding: FR 147-66 X We 75-34-13

Characteristics: Sauvitage is considered botrytis resistant due to its loose grapes. In addition, the variety grows strongly and vertically. This leads to less effort in lifting and pruning. Yield and must weight are slightly higher than those of Riesling. Bud burst and ripening time are medium. Occasionally, the variety suffers from magnesium deficiency, which favours grape stem rot.

Resistance:

Downy mildew: niedrig mittel hoch very high

Powdery mildew: niedrig mittel high sehr hoch

Botrytis: niedrig mittel high sehr hoch

Grape: The variety produces mainly loose grapes with mostly medium-sized, partly small berries.

Wine: The descriptions of the piwi-wines range from fresh-fruity, to exotic, to pronounced gooseberry notes. In addition, the wine has a pleasant acidity structure and resembles Sauvignon blanc wines.

Cultivation: The cultivation requirements are comparable to those of the Kerner variety in the medium range. According to previous experience, the rootstock variety can be selected according to the soil type. Due to the good growth of the variety, a strong rootstock is not necessary.
