Origin: The piwi-variety was crossed by the Swiss Valentin Blattner. Through multiple crosses with different resistance genetics, the robustness against fungal diseases was sustainably improved.

Interbreeding: Sauvignon blanc x Riesling x resistance partners

Characteristics: Sauvignac has a medium growth comparable to Riesling. It also has good wood maturity and frost resistance, but also stable acidity.

Resistance:

Downy mildew: niedrig mittel hoch very high

Powdery mildew: niedrig mittel hoch very high

Botrytis: niedrig mittel hoch very high

Grape: The loose grape corresponds to the Riesling in size. The medium-sized berries are very resistant to botrytis due to a thick berry skin. Full ripeness is visible through a pink colour.

Wine: Depending on the ripness stage, the style of vinification and the use of yeast, Sauvignac wines are characterised by Riesling aromas with apricot and ripe apple or show the bouquet of lime and subtle blackcurrant of Scheurebe. It also has a stable acidity that remains lively during bottle-aging.

Cultivation: The variety can be grown in a variety of vineyard sites and soils.
