Scheurebe
Add to wish listOrigin: The white wine variety was crossed by Georg Scheu in 1916 at the Landesanstalt für Rebenzüchtung in Alzey/Rheinhessen.
Interbreeding: Silvaner x Riesling
Characteristics: The leaf is medium sized, circular and deeply lobed. The ripening time is medium and the yields are medium high. The variety is susceptible to downy mildew, powdery mildew and botrytis. Advantages are its good chlorosis resistance and its frost-resistant foliage.
Grape: The grape is medium-sized, dense-berried, cylindrical and shouldered, with roundish, greenish-yellow berries that have a typical muscat-like flavour.
Wine: With sufficient ripeness, full-bodied, dry wines can be produced as well as wines rich in aromas. These wines are characterised by their lively acidity, which offers impressive potential for ageing.
Cultivation: The variety needs good vineyard sites. Scheurebe is a strong grower and has a high tolerance to dryness and lime. It is also characterised by its high winter frost resistance.
Clones
- The clone JF 22 produces particularly fruity wines with high extract values.
- The clone JF 55 is leading in quality. It produces somewhat lower yields with higher must weight and yields a typical Scheurebewein wine.
