Origin: The new variety Veritage was crossed at the LVWO Weinsberg in 1986. The variety Merzling combines hereditary parts of Riesling and Pinot Gris with resistance genes against powdery mildew from American Vitis species. We 73-45-84 is an interbreeding of Lemberger and the Asian vine Vitis amurensis. The latter favours the loose grape structure as well as the vertical growth and a very high downy mildew resistance.

Characteristics: This easy-care quality variety has a very upright and strong growth habit. The foliage is airy, the leaves strong and robust. Due to a loose cluster structure and a firm berry skin, it also has a very good resistance to grape rot. The plant protection strategy should be carried out according to good professional practice. Based on the experience with the variety from trials of the LVWO Weinsberg, two treatments against downy mildew and three against powdery mildew are recommended as a basis; in case of high infection pressure or use of ecological agents, the treatments should be adapted accordingly. 

Grape: The grape is medium sized and loose-berried. The berries are round and small with thick berry skin.

Wine: The wine shows pressure, melting and body. The aroma of the wine is very appealing, characterised by local fruits. In cool vintages, a discreet green note sometimes appears.
