Origin: The fungus-resistant grape variety Muscaris was crossed at the Staatlichen Weinbauinstitut Freiburg by Norbert Becker.

Interbreeding: Muscaris is an interbreeding of the varieties Solaris and Gelber Muskateller. The grape variety Solaris emerged from the parent varieties Merzling and Gm 6493.

Characteristics: The variety has an early bud burst time and a medium ripening time. The growth is strong, bushy with few tendrils and short internodes. The tendency to shatter is medium. The grape strem rot susceptibility is medium. Muscaris makes many side shoots on the stem, therefore it is recommended to plant high stem vines.

Resistance:

Downy mildew: niedrig mittel high sehr hoch

Powdery mildew: niedrig medium hoch sehr hoch

Botrytis: niedrig mittel high sehr hoch

Grape: The berries are medium in size and the berry density can be described as medium. The grapes are small to medium sized and remain very green, even with high must weights.

Wine: The PIWI white wines are slender to strong-substantial and resemble the Muskateller. Depending on the ageing, also floral aromas with a slightly smoky aftertaste. Due to the early high must weight, it is well suited for dessert wines. For dry wines, harvest at max. 90 degrees Oechsle to avoid loss of aroma.

Cultivation: The variety has an increased demand for the nutrient magnesium. On particularly vigorous sites, increased foliage work must be expected.
