Origin: Blossom Muscat is a fungus-resistant Russian variety called Tsvetochny (Russian for "the flowery one"). This variety was developed in 1947 at the All-Russian Viticultural Institute in Novocherkassk, Southern Russia.

Interbreeding: The white PIWI variety was crossed from Severny (= Seianetze Malengra × Vitis amurensis) x (Muscat Lunel × Muscat d'Alexandrie). The Severny variety contains gene shares of Vitis amurensis. It comes from a breeding line for crossbreeding resistance to the powdery mildew fungi.

Characteristics: Blütenmuskateller has very good resistance to winter frost and is slightly less susceptible to late frost than the other varieties. The berries have a low tendency to burst after autumn precipitation, which is especially feared with the "Gelber Muskateller". In addition, the berries have a high sugar content and tend to shrivel when fully mature. A very upright shoot growth facilitates foliage work. The variety matures medium-late.

Resistance:

Downy mildew: low medium high very high

Powdery mildew: niedrig medium hoch sehr hoch

Botrytis: niedrig mittel high sehr hoch

Grape: The grape is 18 to 25 cm long, conical with 1 to 3 wings and has no accessory clusters. The berries are roundish, small, green-yellow coloured with uncoloured flesh and intense nutmeg flavour. The loose grapes with the smaller berries dry faster and the bursting of the berries with the development of rot is prevented.

Wine: The wines are similar to the parent variety "Muskateller", but are somewhat more aromatic and extract-rich. The main aroma is reminiscent of nutmeg or also of floral scents such as elderberry or lime. The acidity values of Blütenmuskateller and Gelber Muskateller are very similar, when comparing the wine qualities, the BLütenmuskateller was either equally good or even better than the Gelber Muskateller. The variety is also well suited for cloying wine production.

Cultivation: The white "piwi" variety should be planted in good vineyard sites. Sparse, lean soils should be avoided, otherwise shoot growth will slow down.
