Origin: The fungus resistant grape variety Satin Noir was crossed in 1991 by the Swiss Valentin Blattner.

Interbreeding: Cabernet Sauvignon X resistance partners

Characteristics: The variety has small leaves and therefore a sparse shoot structure. The growth is very upright, which means less effort in lifting. The loose foliage ensures good aeration of the grape zone without additional defoliation, especially in humid regions. The ripening time is about 10 days before Cabernet Sauvignon (early to mid-October).

Resistance:

Downy mildew: niedrig mittel hoch very high

Powdery mildew: niedrig mittel hoch very high

Botrytis: niedrig mittel high sehr hoch

Grape: The grape is long, loosened up and little shouldered. The berry is round and has about the same size as Cabernet Sauvignon. The berry skin is very firm, thick and thus has good resistance to botrytis. The berries have a very colourful and aromatic flesh.

Wine: The wine is characterised by a deep red dense colour, fine structure and harmonious ripeness. On the palate, Satin Noir is reminiscent of ripe, black blackberries and currants, black pepper and dark chocolate.

Cultivation: On shallow sites, weak growth and declining yields are to be feared. On moist sites, the loose foliage ensures good aeration of the grape zone. As the bud burst is relatively late, there is little danger of late frosts. The grape variety is also insensitive to winter frosts.
