Origin: The variety Regent was bred in 1967 by the Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt Geilweilerhof in the Palatinate.

Interbreeding: Diana (Silvaner X Müller-Thurgau) X Chambourcin.

Characteristics: The variety has a fairly strong, upright growth habit and has little tendency to side shoot growth. With frequent rainfall before and around flowering, there is an increased risk of Botrytis. The red wine variety ripens medium early.

Resistance:

Downy mildew: niedrig mittel high sehr hoch

Powdery mildew: niedrig mittel high sehr hoch

Botrytis: niedrig medium hoch sehr hoch

Grape: The cylindrical grape is rarely shouldered, medium in size and somewhat loose. The roundish to oval berries are small to medium in size and dark blue to violet-blue in color.

Wine: The wine is deep red in color, full-bodied, tannic with aromas of cherries. The variety is suitable for aging in wooden barrels. When vinified as rosé, it yields full-bodied wines. Regent is also a good blending partner in a cuvée.

Cultivation: Due to the early ripeness, the appealing must weight and the high winter frostiness, the variety is also suitable for red wine edge locations. Cold and windy locations should be avoided to prevent couloring damages.
